Using Small Business to Rebuild an Economy
Jeffery Justice is a Business and Innovation Champion of Shaping Our Appalachian Region (SOAR), Inc. He is also a member of BRIGHT Kentucky, a program through Leadership Kentucky that develops young leaders in eastern Kentucky.
SOAR is a non-profit, non-partisan organization that is a champion for Appalachia Kentucky. Through Collaboration and innovation, they have established a network of partners, representing individuals, organizations, and businesses who unequivocally believe that there is a future in Appalachia. SOAR’s vision is an Appalachian Kentucky engaged in a landscape-changing enterprise: shaped by a shared and envisioned future, driven by innovation, entrepreneurship, and a commitment to common purpose with improved education, health, and economic outcomes, and expanding opportunities, for all the region’s citizens.
As a Business and Innovation Champion, Jeffery works throughout his service area to identify and build relationships with existing small businesses that have the desire and capacity to scale-up utilizing technology. He walks business owners through the process of scaling their businesses so that they can have a greater economic impact in their communities.
As the son of a coal miner, Jeffery is familiar with the industry that helped build the region and has since decreased significantly. He’s passionate about bridging the gap between the high-tech, digital world and the hardworking people of Appalachia. He recognizes that although people in the region may not have a ton of technological experience, things like ingenuity, resiliency, and creativity are soft skills that allow people to be successful in whatever they do.
Jeffery is proud of the work that SOAR has done, and some of that work can be seen here.
